This talk with describe an approach to strategic-level decision support using descriptive and predictive analytic methods. Specific examples from research, development, and innovation investment portfolio management will be discussed. Decision support for the tactical homeland/national security arena will also be briefly examined. The ongoing development of a return model for the mission-driven environment (as opposed to the profit-driven environment) will be explored. Lastly, the emerging role of the Chief Analytics Officer within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) will be summarized.
